Congratulations to August’s
NJTESOL/NJBE Member of the Month
Katrina Chu
Katrina Chu has been an ESL teacher at Henry Hudson Regional School for approximately 20 years. She was nominated by two separate people. They highlighted her hard work, collaboration with colleagues, parents, students and administration, and her advocacy for the students. They mentioned that she was the cornerstone of their program who also turnkeys information that she has learned at professional development throughout the year. As one wrote, “I am proud to recommend her for this honor and in my 20+ year career, I have known few who were so deserving. She has truly helped transform Henry Hudson Regional School into a school of genuine opportunity for all learners.”
As Katrina writes, “I am so excited to be the NJTESOL/NJBE Member of the Month. My favorite part of the job is working to gain the trust of the students and their families so they feel safe and welcome in our school community. NJTESOL/NJBE has provided me with endless resources to build an inclusive environment and advocate for this diverse population. Thank you NJTESOL/NJBE!”
Congratulations Katrina and to Henry Hudson Regional School!
Nominate the member of the month!
NJTESOL/NJBE has so many amazing teachers throughout our state that it would be fitting to highlight some of them. Nominees could be colleagues who are available to answer questions about ELLs or the Bilingual Education code; educators who support students and their families beyond the classroom with projects, college applications, and extracurricular activities; someone who joins committees in support of ELLS or to implement positive change for the community. The nominee must be a member of NJTESOL/NJBE. Nomination Link
