NJTESOL-NJBE Mission Statement

NJTESOL/NJBE, Inc. is a not-for-profit professional and educational organization whose purposes are:

  1. To actively support the development of bilingual education and the teaching of English as a Second Language;
  2. To strengthen instruction at all levels;
  3. To disseminate educational information as related to professional development;
  4. To provide educational services such as workshops, conferences, and consulting assistance;
  5. To promote scholarship and foster research in first and second language acquisition and bilingual/bicultural studies; and
  6. To cooperate in appropriate ways with other groups having similar interests and concerns.

Paramus Library. 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. OFF TO A GOOD START addresses the responsibilities of the ELL Specialist, especially at the beginning of the year; monitoring former ELLs; informing general education teachers of ACCESS  scores and CAN DO descriptors for the ELLs in their classes; translated letters at NJDOE/ Bilingual website; three- year plan; and ACCESS for ELLs Timelines as found on the NJDOE/Bilingual website; 3 year plan.

October 21: New Jersey Association for Gifted Children, with NJPSA / FEA and NJTESOL/NJBE: Dr. Joy Lawson Davis- Ensuring Equity and Excellence for High Potential Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students. October 22, 2011 NJTESOL/NJBE Southern Mini-Conference, The Richard Stockton College of NJ, Pomona, NJ. 8:30 AM-1:00 PM. Using Technology to Build ELL Literacy: The focus of the conference will be on incorporating the 21st Century Web 2.0 technology to support the literacy development of our English learners. Practical, hands-on research-based strategies will be presented. Participants are invited to bring their laptops or iPads.  Coffee and tea will be served.  Food can be purchased from a snack bar at the conference site. Speakers: Lois Spitzer, Sandee McHugh-McBride, Judie Haynes, Karen Nemeth, Monica Schnee, Cassy Lawrence, Suzan Cole, and Rita Mulholland. Members: $40 — Non-Members: $75. REGISTER ONLINE

Now what?” WIDA-trained BJ Franks and Barbara Tedesco will discuss W-APT v. MODEL; Analysis of ACCESS scores; How to generate a list of suggestions/recommendations; How ELL specialists can influence supervisors regarding ACCESS scores.

Articles MUST BE submitted electronically, either as an attachment or pasted in an e-mail as a MICROSOFT WORD DOCUMENT. All articles must have a byline (YOUR NAME) which contains your specific job information (NAME, TELEPHONE #, E-MAIL ADDRESS). Articles should be approximately 500 words total. PHOTOS MUST BE LABELED and be in either black and white or sharp color; digital photos are preferable if the resolution is 300dpi. Any Internet links in articles must be checked for accuracy.

Articles missing any of the above information will not be considered and not returned.
It is the sender’s responsibility to provide all necessary correct information.
