4th Grade Award Winner’s Essay

By Kultej Singh

I would help a new student that doesn’t speak English by opening my Chromebook to figure out what is the student saying. On my first day of school my friend Aiden asked me a question that was “where are you from” and I answered I am from India. I felt excited to make new friends. Just like Aiden, I would help a new student by being friendly and talking slowly. Also, I would try to make him learn English.

In addition, I would try to make him feel comfortable in class. Drawing pictures to cummicate with some one how don’t speak English is a good idea. Another important idea is to help the new student by showing him where the bathroom, gym, lunchroom, and the classrooms are. If the new student doesn’t understand any English, I would use hand gestures to explain what I am saying.

Lastly, there are the different ways you can help a new student. Being helpful is important because if no one helped him, then he will feel sad and lonely.
